New Delhi, May 23: Several prominent members of the Lok Sabha were among nominal spenders of MPLADS funds while several of those who registered a "good attendance" were not "good performers", a report said today.
Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Karia Munda released the report 'Representatives at work', prepared by NGO 'Mass for Awareness' on the working of the 15th Lok Sabha MPs for 2010-2011.
This is the second year that the report has been prepared by the NGO, under its awareness campaign 'Vote for India'.
The report analysed the working of MPs on the basis of their presence in Parliament, partnership, Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) and other aspects and were judged on their age, occupation, education and other criteria.
The report said the women MPs were good performers with good attendance.
According to the report, Parliament had a total of 72 sittings during 2010-11 with the total time of 260 hours and 20 minutes spent. In total, 194 hours and 58 minutes was wasted due to the chaotic scenes demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on 2G Spectrum scam and other issues. The proceedings were disrupted for 11,512 times.
The first part of the report shows that 12 MPs registered 100 per cent attendance of whom seven were from the Congress.
About 180 MPs had an attendance of more than 60 days at the total 72 sittings of the House.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi attended 24 and 19 days respectively.
MPs belonging to the age group of 25-40 years registered 72 per cent presence while those of 41-60 years and above 60 years had a presence of 74 and 78 per cent respectively.
The report also suggested that the MPs with film background are the lowest scorers with 48 per cent attendance.
The second part which deals with the Question Hour shows that only three members have asked more than 200 questions.
