Allow me to explain to you what the holiday season means to big old loud mouthed italian gay uncle pat. Its that special time of year where I reflect on the people and hearts who mean so much to me, who have touched my life and deserve that something special. Those who have gone through the rigors of everyday for 364 days at my side encouraging me forward lifting me up or being at my side. On one day its an opportunity to express in action a fond and loving memory that can be built on.
We exchange gifts to symbolically through an of kindness enforce the already existing feelings of caring and gratefulness we have for our loved ones. The cost of the gift is secondary to the time and caring behind with which it is chosen and given. This is not an opportunity to make cash. Yes i know, its adorable, understandable and everyone would like a few extra dollars. However that is not what this season is all about. Gift cards, money, pre-paid credit cards are all swell and even easy gifts to give. There is nothing wrong with wanting them, there is nothing wrong with giving them. However, for me, it gives a node of carelessness, takes the fun out of it, potentially discards the meaning behind it and expresses little more than being opportunistic. So understand, if you truly know me, you know I care more than that.
Learning about your interests, dreams, wishes, preferences great and small allows me a great joy in becoming closer to you. It assists in me getting to know you better as you grow into wonderful young adults with your own set of values, standards and integrity. This is why when I ask "what do you like' and your answer is "money" this big gay italian santa's helper is going to exercise his epic creative holiday spirit and totally choose for you. :) MWAH!
