Papilles: lentil soup w smoked fish, duck, cheese w prune, wine reduction, panna cotta At the intersection of rue Condillac, rue Montesquieu, & Cours de l'Intendance in Bordeaux's Triangle d'Or, one comes upon this lovely spot. Perfect for resting one's feet after shopping, & for meeting friends for lunch or a drink. Bordeaux's Place Gambetta, lined by cafés & shops, is an 18th century square & surrounds an English garden. The peacefulness of the garden belies the fact that a guillotine stood here during the French Revolution! Bordeaux's "Golden Triangle" [Le triangle d'or, communément appelé quartier des Grands Hommes], is the heart of Bordeaux's grand history. At its centre stands the spectacular Grand Théâtre, built between 1773 & 1780, miraculously escaped the great wars & For the ultimate in luxurious old world elegance and style, the 5 star Hotel Regent on Place de la Comedie is the place to stay. ...can't escape Baillardran canelés in Bordeaux! And the macarons are also sublime...try macarons flavoured with caramel a la fleur de sel or pistachios. One of the many narrow streets in Old Bordeaux... After gorging yourself on lots of tiny crispy canelés [or "mignardises" as this size is called] & decadent macarons in heavenly flavours, you may want to go for a bicycle ride - there are bicycles everywhere in Bordeaux!  The "Baillardran Canelé", made in the traditional fashion in individual metal molds, is definitely the best in Bordeaux! The only ingredients are fresh milk, vanilla bean, sugar, egg yolk, butter & rhum. I love the very dark ones best! When in Bordeaux, apart from the glorious wines, one must absolutely try the famous "canelés" - small moist pastries with a slightly crisp caramelised rhum exterior. One of the many elegant windows overlooking the Place du Parlement. Surrounded by lovely wine bars, restaurants & cafes, it's also an ideal place for lovers of food, wine, & people watching. One of the many lovely squares [places] in Old Bordeaux... The eclectic decor of dozens upon dozens of cozy little bistrots lining the narrow streets of vieux bordeaux tempt passers-by with excellent wines & gorgeous food - all for very little money compared to London or Paris ... The Porte de la Grosse Cloche, built in the XVth century & restored in 1876-77, was once the main gate to the city of Bordeaux. Bordeaux's Cathedral St-André which dates back to the XI th century. Incredibly, stolen by the Germans in 1943, it was re-installed in all its splendour in 1983! Gorgeous dish of confit de canard, small melt in your mouth potatoes cooked in goose fat, loads of garlic, porcini mushrooms & tins of parsley...served with Bordeaux of course! Sumptuous :-> In a region renowned for its wines, & also one of the world's largest wine producers, what else to accompany an al fresco lunch a nice Bordeaux! 25C, deep blue skies...another perfect day! ...e presuntos, e cogumelos... Um velho fogão de lenha, um dia pra vadiar...
