USIP Senior Fellow Robin Wright is in Egypt this week. She snapped this photo, saying:
"In Egypt for election results, to talk with Islamist winners and hang out at Tahrir Square in run-up to one-year anniversary of Egypt's uprising on Jan 25. These guys both lost eyes recently, one after being detained and beaten and the other after being shot in the square--and both are still in Tahrir. One joked: "Between the two of us, one can see. Between the two of us, one is also blind." They are among the 1,500 who have lost sight from shootings or beatings over the past year, according to local doctors and human rights activists. Tonight, I went to a rally honoring "The Eyes of Tahrir" featuring many more of those blinded. It's one of the untold stories in Egypt."
