The famous Fort San Antonio de Salgar, located in what is now called Puerto Colombia and former Port of Sabanilla becomes the only evidence that still retains the architectural features of the colonial architecture, near the mouth of the Magdalena River, was the small hamlet of Cove piece of cloth which sometimes served as anchorage for ships and boats that were coming to a beach. Its strategic location was ideal for the introduction of contraband, using the Magdalena River as a gateway into the country. That's why over the years grew into a thriving port.
