Solvay Founfation, Rue L'Arbre Bénit 21, Ixelles. Ernest Solvay invented the Solvay Process in the 1860's. Chemistry students and Industrial Chemists will know the Solvay Process.

Major activity at Place Londres, Brussels. They are digging up the roads and pavements all around Ixelles, Bruxelles and rearranging them. Elections due? What do you think?

Villers Abbey, South of Brussels. Large Cistercian Abbey founded in 1098, dissolved by the French in 1796. Sold to for building material. Subsequently partially restored.

A huge blue brain on the roof of a Brussels landmark deserves some sort of explanation. Of course it was there to illustrate the relationship between the brain and music. Or at least I think so. As I said earlier the museum is shut on Mondays.

OK so I went shopping for soya milk, but noticed that Beer Mania on the corner of Chausée de Wavre / Goffart was open. They stock 400 different types of Belgian beer. Apparently Belgium specialised in beer after Napoleon had the vineyards grubbed up.

Place Flagey, market organic vegetables on display. The market is a good source of locally grown produce as well as produce from Italy, the Ardeche etc.

Here is the market where this morning I bought my organic vegetables, bread and cheese. The market is held every Sat and Sun am. In the background are the former Belgian Radio Centre and Sainte-Croix Church. Flagey was a former mayor of Brussels.

Pictures from Matonge. This is shop selling all sorts of African fruit and vegetables in this part of Bruxelles. Matonge is full of ex-pat Africans from former Belgian colonies such as the Congo, Rwanda etc.
