Did you know that this week is Teacher Appreciation Week? To all Teachers and Educators, we know we don't thank you enough, but we are so grateful for your tireless efforts for our students. We are proud to help support teachers through the US Airways Field Trip FUNd, a grant program that provides transportation costs for educational field trips, giving teachers the opportunity to enrich and extend classroom studies. Since 2011, 246 teachers with grants totaling $110,500 were able to help their students ‘take off’ on new educational adventures and we are looking forward to helping even more when the Fall Field Trip FUNd grant cycle opens August 1. - Our employee volunteer corps, the DoCrew, kicked off National Volunteer Week in Washington, DC. Led by Station Director Jay Jay Lavine, our airport managers rolled up their sleeves and helped prepare over 5,000 meals that were distributed to community pantries that help feed the hungry. All week long employees in all our hub cities have volunteered with non-profit organizations and in the first quarter of 2013, DoCrew members volunteered nearly 5,000 hours. Have you volunteered this week?

Did you ever imagine that a 5th grader could learn to price tickets to run an airline? Students visiting the Junior Achievement of Charlotte Biztown will have the opportunity to do just that! Junior Achievement Biztowns across the country create a unique hands-on learning opportunity for visiting classrooms. Students learn to run a simulated business which helps spark the entrepreneur spirit during their visit. Through our sponsorship of JA, we recently remodeled the US Airways Vacation shop. Check out the photos of this transformation! Learn more about Junior Achievement at www.ja.org.

Our west coast station managers did more than talk business at their annual meeting in Las Vegas, they put aside time to volunteer for a Destination: Do Crew project! Our team worked with The Shade Tree of Las Vegas, a shelter for homeless and abused women and children in crisis. The volunteers served dinner, helped kids paint wooden planes and taught them about countries like Italy, France & Greece. For each employee volunteer, we provide a $10 per hour donation through the Destination: Do Crew program, which turned into a $700 contribution for the day.
