When you meet Crystal Cunningham from Nashville you’ll immediately note her exotic beauty. Half American, her dad is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed preacher, and half Korean Crystal is strikingly beautiful. As a first year contestant, Crystal atypically calls the experience one “words can’t describe.” Where most girls call the pageant fun, exciting, or a great opportunity, Crystal asserts it’s “truly a blessing.”
While you might have noticed Crystal’s looks, you might not have initially noticed a long scar traveling the outside of her right ankle. Being a dancer it could be easily assumed Crystal’s injury was caused by surgery – all too common in the world of dance. Crystal’s story however is so much more.
“I was in a really horrible car accident in 2007,” states Crystal. The accident, which Crystal doesn’t really remember, occurred on a road she thought she knew. Reaching to grab something, she went off the road and ended up in a tree. “They nearly pronounced me dead,” says Crystal.
Though the accident was bad, the prediction that Crystal would never dance again was worse. At one point it was so bad doctors were contemplating amputating her right foot at the ankle. Crystal wouldn’t have it.
Just a few short years after her accident Crystal not only represents Hooters of Downtown Nashville in the Miss Hooters International Pageant, but also dances for the NHL Nashville Predators. Crystal is back to doing what she loves in a very big way.
“Everyone said I couldn’t do it,” states Crystal, “but I know you can do anything if your heart is really set on it.” With an attitude like that, Crystal is sure to go far.
