The second Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental flight-test airplane, RC021, flew to San Bernardino, Calif., recently to complete nautical air miles (NAMS) testing.

NAMS testing determines the airplane's fuel efficiency similar to figuring out the gas mileage of your car. To collect the required data, Boeing pilots put the flight-test airplane through six days of numerous, highly calibrated and precise tests. An analysis of the NAMS data will allow customers to determine fuel requirements for each flight, either for how far to fly, or how many passengers and how much cargo to carry.

A new Boeing 767 Freighter for nears completion in Boeing's factory in Everett, Wash.

Derived from the popular 767-300ER (extended range) passenger twinjet, the 767-300F benefits from the advanced avionics, aerodynamics, materials and propulsion incorporated on Boeing 767 passenger airplanes. Its proven combination of light, durable aluminum alloy and composite structure helps make the 767-300ER Freighter lighter than competing freighters, so more of its fuel goes to lifting revenue cargo and less to lifting the airplane.
