Shells fit inside.
Opening of the breach.
Finished today but this will take a while to craft into an actual blog post.
The wonders of filler putty! All the little pieces and trim suddenly look like once solid piece.
After some other cleanup, the last step was to add piping to the back cover. Just some putty work to do.
I coat of dark grey auto primer ties the parts together and is a nice base for the gun metal paint.
With the latch sorted, I could glue on the breach cover and seal the seams.
I started laying down base paint for the pieces and adding decorative rivets and other hardware.
Latch now keeps the breach closed and has a very satisfying click when it closes.
I got concerned that my wood latch wouldn't be strong enough to last so I remade it today out of a chunk of steel.
Detail shot of the grip shell. I still have to glue this on, fill seams and then add piping.
A test fit of the completed parts. There is still some work to do but I should be ready to paint next weekend.
I slushed a little resin in the mold and then inserted a foam core so the shell is light.
