@bbakertx I know their comments come out of love, but they are still wrong and need gentle correcting.
wakingdreaming on September 16, 2009
@bbakertx Autism does NOT equal diminished intellect or being "the happiest person in the world."
wakingdreaming on September 16, 2009
@bbakertx I'm sure they love and care for their siblings, but they very clearly don't understand autism.
wakingdreaming on September 16, 2009
@bbakertx With all due respect, I do think they need to be educated.
bbakertx on September 16, 2009
siblings. My Auttie is 8 & my 9yo daughter is years beyond those her age because of what she's learned. She has sacrificed more than she should have & should be honored.
bbakertx on September 16, 2009
Hey, wakingdreaming, if these gals have an Autistic sibling, they don't need to "get educated"! I'm sure they have LIVED it for years & is way more knowledgable than most. Don't fuss @ them for expressing their strong emotions. They CAN speak for their

@katwantsyou Even if he can't show you, he may be very hurt by it when people treat him badly.
wakingdreaming on September 16, 2009
@katwantsyou (continued) with the outside world. Someone could be feeling a whole mix of emotions they don't know how to show you. (Cont...)

@katwantsyou Please don't assume your brother is the "happiest person in the world." Autism makes it difficult for someone to communicate (Cont...)
wakingdreaming on September 16, 2009
@annieisafungus (continued) but may lack the ability to express his hurt to others. Again autism != MR.
wakingdreaming on September 16, 2009
@annieisafungus Autism makes the brain work differently but it doesn't make you dumb. He may be very hurt by mean people (Cont...)
wakingdreaming on September 16, 2009
@annieisafungus It also might not be true he doesn't know when people are mean to him.
wakingdreaming on September 16, 2009
@annieisafungus Please get educated on autism. It isn't the same as retardation. It's not true he "might as well be 4."
katwantsyou on September 16, 2009

katwantsyou on September 16, 2009
