Three most salient technical factors you should consider when capturing waterfalls are exposure, filtering and shutter speed. You will often see “hot spots” in waterfall scenes, as water reflects light. Slightly underexpose your picture to avoid these areas being washed out. Use a polarizing filter to avoid reflections. Use a slow shutter speed (from 1/30 sec. to several seconds), when it comes to choosing a shutter speed, to blur the movement of the water.
