Artist's Thought of the Day: Wednesday June 11th 2014 Leadership is an artform. If you can change from brick maker to brick layer to architect or from weaponsmith to warrior to diplomat or even from trying a new task to specialist to generalist you can become a leader. It all begins within. Its said that 'everyone loves a winner' thats because real & true confidence is contagious, by being a source for it those around become empowered as well. Its a delightful infection of sorts which builds the solid of newfound families of choice 'the power team'. Any leader's honesty, effort, & reliability form the foundation of success for their world, eliminate the maybe and lead from within. How? Leading from within, thats seems pretty cut and dry but people get lost in it. How when we want so badly to lead our lives to be the boss of the mighty 'me' how do we get being to be that leader we so desperately need for our own selves first. These arent commands from on high when its coming from the person you know all the tricks with, its you. So I had to take a look at the simplest parts and begin there. Here's what Ive learned in my crazy swing from the chandelier fall down brush off do it again way . . . . One's leadership ethics & values should be visible because they live them in their actions every single day. So what did I value? After close scrutiny even I was surprised that it wasnt wealth because at the time I was floating in a diet of bologna or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Looking at what is really important and writing it down creates clarity. Passion, purpose, listening & meaning help make a leader inspirational. Communicating helps establish the motivation of a person's life. It adds meaning and with meaning comes purpose and power, will of intent and direction. The nature of vision & mission is critical for enabling yourself to feel your work has purpose and meaning beyond the tasks you are performing. Anyone can take a paintbrush dip it in paint and strike a surface, anyone can. The difference is the hand, heart, and soul that is moving it. That triquetra of divine measure is the charge which transforms the simple action into a miracle by any measure and everything fits into that formula. Avoid pessimistic thinking, even if youre right its a waste of time because youve completely eliminated the difference, your involvement. Instead be a source of positive energy, look for ways to gain consensus & have talent function within your chosen family as a power team. Surround yourself with those who embody the qualities with which you aspire to achieve and also admire. Water seeks its own level. The very moment a mind is changed that life is realigned, old ways seem stranger new ways more exciting, better, easier to try. Where there is no trust, there can be no intimacy. For all practical purposes, the reverse is true as well. Build your character to a level where you can trust yourself by raising your own standards and lowering your expectations. Character is one of those things that is far easier to achieve than it is to restore so stick to those standards and reduce your tolerance for nonsense from yourself. Be creative, creativity dies in an undisciplined environment. Leaders take responsibility for everyone's performance, including their own, do not fear self assessment when administering accountability. Another point is when problems arise understand that challenges till the soil in which to grow. High performance is only tangible when focus is involved. Well defined strategies, processes, & routines allow for less stress better focus. Blueprint instead of plan, and write those goals down start small then go larger. When a problem occurs or challenge forms look for constructive solutions & focus on moving forward. first, deal with cause & liability after. Assessment now can lead to prevention later. Last of these points leaders in general share is that they take a general consensus and corroborative effort. If I dont know I dont know and theres nothing wrong with that until I do nothing about it. Ask for opinions, get others involved and be open. People respect openness and the strength of honesty. By fostering collaborative decision-making a person is able to look further and even gain light on things they might not have expected to come up. Like streetlights on a darkened road, those whose insights and talents we respect when asked allow for a clearer success image. We are all creative forces, some simply know better what they are trying to create. By leading from within we make the choice between having a life or letting life have us, having a challenge or letting challenges have us, having relationships or letting relationships have us.
