Windy and unseasonably cold weather is in store for southern Colorado over the next few days. A high wind warning has been issued for El Paso, Crowley, Otero, Kiowa, Bent, Prowers, Baca and eastern Las Animas Counties from 9 am to 7 pm today. There will be a mix of rain and snow showers this afternoon, although this will be more likely in the mountains than on the plains. Local snowfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches will be possible in the mountains today with little or no snow accumulation expected across the lower elevations. Early gardens may need to be protected for the next few nights, due to the cooler temperatures. (Please visit http://weather.gov/pub for more information.)
