Some brief thoughts on #IrevIta and the true sporting legend that is #BOD #Ireland #thirteen
Fantastic result for Ireland who dominated from early on. The physicality of the Italians was decidedly lacking. Losing their influential captain Parisse had a major impact on Italy's game. That said Ireland attacked the Italian line with speed & force. Sexton had a super game but he won't begrudge BOD getting Man of the Match for among other things his three assists. A fitting finale for one of Ireland's greatest ever rugby players in his last home international. We can't overestimate the direct influence Brian O'Driscoll has had on grass roots rugby. The player that most kids have looked up to over the years which prompted so many of them to take up the game.
There's no doubt that BOD is a true sporting legend who led the team by example. He consistently squeezed through the narrowest of gaps, unselfishly offloaded the ball and tackled like his life depended on it. Every. Single. Time.
While it's hard to see him going out when he's still got so much rugby in him, it's wonderful that he's the one dictating the ending of his career, and doing so on a high. To win the championship next weekend against France would be an astonishing tribute to the man and the team.
Thank you Brian for the memories, the inspiration and the highs.
