A complex storm system has brought winter weather back to eastern Kentucky. Rain changed to snow Tuesday evening as colder air funneled back into the area behind a cold front. After a brief lull, the snow will pick up in intensity during the overnight and early morning hours of Wednesday, before gradually tapering off from west to east Wednesday afternoon and evening. Storm total snow accumulations through Wednesday evening will average in the 1 to 3 inch range for most areas. Locations along and southeast of a line from Inez to Hazard to Pineville with see generally 2 to 4 inches, with higher amounts, up to 6 inches, occurring at elevations above 2000 feet. Travelers through Wednesday evening need to be prepared for the possibility of slick roads and poor driving conditions. (Please visit http://weather.gov/jkl for more information.)
