Lo nuevo en controles antilavado: Regiones y Países—Productos y Servicios Nos encontramos en un mundo cada vez más volátil, peligroso y sofisticado para el lavado de dinero, que puede terminar dañando severamente la reputación de nuestras instituciones. El premio por analizar adecuadamente el riesgo es contar con la certeza de estar alerta a zonas de peligro. No se pueden eliminar los riesgos, pero sí se pueden reducir y minimizar. Por esa razón usted debe tomar una postura basada en el riesgo en todas sus obligaciones antilavado. Debe aprender a detectar donde está el riesgo, cuáles son las regiones peligrosas para su institución. Un buen modelo de calificación le permitirá evitar aquellos países y regiones geográficas que significan un gran riesgo para su institución. También aprenderá a evaluar el riesgo de los productos y servicios que su cliente busca adquirir. Este modelo de calificación se basa en un número de factores relacionados con los productos y servicios. Como por ejemplo, se basa en la mayor probabilidad de que un producto o servicio sea utilizado para lavar dinero o financiar el terrorismo. Algunos de los criterios para calificar a los países incluye: si organizaciones antilavado –como el GAFI por ejemplo—tiene al país en alguna lista no deseada, si es miembro del GAFI, la calidad de sus leyes y regulaciones, la fortaleza de su industria bancaria, solo para nombrar a algunos.
