GE, Hitachi and Toshiba built the flawed reactors at Fukushima that melted down. They should not be let off the hook. The meltdown spewed radiation over a vast area and 160,000 people had to evacuate their homes. Many are still suffering, still living in limbo, waiting for fair compensation. Many families will likely never return to their homes. The Fukushima disaster will cost up to $250 billion, but GE, Hitachi and Toshiba have so far walked away without paying a cent. This makes the unfairness of what's happening to victims in Japan worse. Our campaign has forced TEPCO, operator of the plant, to say it will look more carefully at the causes of the disaster and the resulting damages, and the role the reactors from GE, Hitachi and Toshiba may have played. TEPCO said this because Greenpeace Japan, together with a partner shareholder group, are pushing a resolution at TEPCO's annual general meeting on 26 June to get the company to investigate the causes and damages, and examine ways to sue its suppliers. TEPCO said it doesn't support the resolution because the information relates to business matters, but it will investigate the extent of damages and the causes. This progress is because of the voices of the 100,000+ people like you who signed our petition to make GE, Hitachi and Toshiba responsible. I'm asking for your help again. Hitachi, Toshiba and TEPCO are all having annual general meetings in the coming days. We are taking all the signatures on the petition to their meetings.
