Long-term stress leads to ill health


A researcher in Gothenburg may have uncovered part of the reason why stress leads to poor health.

Anna-Karin Lennartsson at the Sahlgrenka Academy in Gothenburg has found that long-term stress may reduce the body’s capacity to produce a protective hormone, DHEA-S.

In the study people who experienced long-term stress produced on average 50 per cent less of the hormone, than those who are rarely stressed.
