Fifty Sisters is comprised of fifty 1m x 1m images of computer synthesised plant-forms, algorithmically “grown” from computer code using artificial evolution and generative grammars. Each plant-like form is derived from the primitive graphic elements of oil company logos.

In this video documentary Jon McCormack discusses the work and the ideas behind its development. In Episode 2 the artist discusses the use of computer code as an artistic medium and shows the basic process of designing the work. Using processes that mimic biological development and evolution, McCormack is able to evolve "new and impossible species" of virtual plant forms, substituting conventional plant elements with the graphic elements of oil company logos.
