Attorney-at-Law Audrey Matura Shepherd has tendered her resignation, effective August 22, as vice president of Oceana in Belize.

A statement from Matura Shepherd gives the reason for the resignation as “time for me to move on to new opportunities and to fully pursue my legal career which remains my passion while balancing it with my family obligations.”

With the resignation of Matura Shepherd, Oceana-Belize now begins the search for a new vice president of its local operations and she has pledged to support whoever is hired to replace her in whatever way she could.

Chief Executive Officer of Oceana (Belize) Andy Sharpless, in accepting Matura Shepherd’s resignation acknowledged the work that she did over the years helping to “win important and enduring victories for Belize’s ocean with the help of our allies and the Belizean people.” As the search begins for a new vice president for Oceana in Belize. Sharpless’ statement says “we have big shoes to fill but are confident that we can find a new local leader as smart, brave and determined as Audrey.”
