May Day march in S.F., rally in Oakland


More than 1,000 people marched in San Francisco and dozens gathered in Oakland Wednesday to celebrate May Day, which was originally meant to honor the international labor movement and has evolved into human rights protests around the world.

The Bay Area rallies remained peaceful into the evening and the mood was decidedly different than last year, in the waning days of the Occupy movement.
Two demonstrations were held in San Francisco, including a group of about 50 who started to march from Civic Center Plaza to an unoccupied building on Turk Street, but instead went to nearby Jefferson Square Park.
About 1,000 people gathered..
