Carved wooden bust with the Ka symbol to the head, now missing. Wearing a #nemes headdress, and chin beard. Traces of red and black. In Egyptian mythology, the ka, a spiritual double, was born with every man and lived on long after he died as long as it had a place to live. The #Egyptians #mummified their dead because they believed the #ka lived within the body of the individual and therefore needed that body after death. If the body decomposed, their spiritual double would die and the deceased would lose their chance for eternal life. #Ptolemaic. (9" x 9 ¼"). 305-30 BC. http://sadighgalleryegypt.com
