THANK YOU ALL
Sharks are the apex predators of the world's oceans, majestic and mysterious we often see them as creatures to be feared... which is unfair and incorrect !! 75 million sharks are slaughtered world wide at a rate of over 70 million per year !!,experts agreeing that sharks could be extinct within 10 to 20 years at the current rate of slaughter. WHEREAS shark finning is a wasteful, inhumane practice that involves cutting off a shark's fins and then tossing the still-alive shark back overboard to drown, bleed to death for hours... even a day, or to be eaten alive by other animals!!
WHERE AS shark fins have no significant nutritional value and are considered unhealthy for human consumption due to the accumulation of high levels of mercury and other toxins in fins and flesh... but Millions of sharks around the world suffer a prolonged and painful death for a stupid mere bowl of shark fin soup !!! can you imagine that ? With the fins being the only 'valuable' parts of their bodies, fishermen are often known to cut off sharks' fins while the animals are still alive and then dump their bodies overboard. Unable to swim, mortally injured sharks sink to the ocean floor where they slowly drown or are been eaten alive. The practice of shark finning, where a shark is captured, the fins removed, while the shark is still living and the body discarded, is a very brutal practice that is decimating shark populations worldwide. This lucrative market for shark fin is creating huge incentives for poor nations- to remove the ocean's shark populations. Without any control, it is likely that endangered and threatened shark species are traded in great volume at great profit. this is a real criminal barbaric and wasteful practice and must be banned immediatly !!!
number of shark populations are in peril from overfishing and finning — and now in the Gulf of Mexico, the BP oil disaster is poisoning their home. Join Ocean Conservancy in calling for final passage of the Shark Conservation Act to end shark finning and ensure the US is a leader in shark conservation and a model for other countries to follow.
