The big beers will flow when Gravity Head starts Friday, Feb. 22
If you like high gravity beers, i.e. those with 8 percent or more alcohol by volume-and TONS of flavor-then you'll like Gravity Head.
This year marks the 15th annual celebration of "big beers" promoted by the New Albanian Brewing Company in New Albany. While NABC will trot out some high-ABV treats of its own, the lineup, which will be featured for about a month, will consist mostly beers from other breweries, and particularly American microbrews.
When Gravity Head begins at 7 a.m. tomorrow-seriously, the taps open at 7 a.m.-the featured brewery will be Sun King, an award-winning brewery in Indianapolis. Dubbed a "tap takeover," six Sun King high-gravity beers will get main billing; they are part of a total 62 serious beers tapped throughout the festival.
According to NABC co-owner Roger Baylor (also one of our regular Food & Dining contributors), early arrivals will be treated to some breakfast nibbles, but at some time during the morning, the pizza oven will begin baking pies for those wanting-OK, needing-substantial food to abut the alcohol intrusion.
That said, if you go, plan for alternative transportation or bribe a designated driver.
