The unseasonably warm air that surged into the region on Monday will set the stage for widespread showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday and Tuesday night, as a strong cold front sweeps east and interacts with the humid and unstable airmass. A few of the thunderstorms may become severe, with damaging straight line winds and brief, short-lived tornadoes being the primary threats. Areas of heavy rain can also be expected.
