On April 16, 1162 (adjusted to our current calendars, the date is November) Temujin was born on the banks of the Onon River, in the heart of Mongolia. He came to power by uniting many of the nomadic tribes of Northeast Asia. In 1207, he established the Mongol Empire and was proclaimed "Chinggis Khan". His Empire reached from the Pacific Ocean to the Caspian Sea and controlled the largest contiguous land empire the world has ever known. Chinggis Khan died in 1227.”
