Arthur Dove was born on August 2, 1880. His "Sunrise" was a featured work in our American Moderns (http://americanmoderns.org/) exhibition. 

While living in his family's farmhouse in Geneva, New York, Dove noted in his diary on 29 August 1936 that he had begun to execute a series of paintings of the sunrise. A metaphor for conception, his Sunrise series unfolds as a story of creation. Our watercolor, shown below is a study for his oil painting Sunrise III, 1936.
