Mariama is one of 8 children in Saran Maradi, Niger. She lost four siblings - one was only 14 days old and starved to death. Mariama and her siblings used to only eat one meal per day, but now their mother participates in CARE's cash-for-work program and is able to feed her children two full meals every day.
