This flag is remarkable for the five red and four white stripes--a total of nine--because there were nine colonies opposed to the Stamp Act when the SOL adopted this "rebellious stripes" flag in 1767.

. . . lower left corner. I respectfully disagree with brother Getler in calling the SOL a "branch" of the KGC. The SOL pre-dated the Revolution, whereas the KGC was founded in the 1850s.

It is SOL, a branch of the Knights of the Golden Circle. The cover of the Lost Symbol shows the alchemist symbol of gold in the letter O (of Code) superimposed on the zodiac circle. Golden circle?
