Trunk, HT2008.36(S), donated by Helen Bouras, nee Andriopoulos

Helen Andriopoulos was 21 when she emigrated from Greece in 1958 in search, she says, of a better life. She too came under the ICEM scheme but paid full fare and was not contracted to work. She joined her brother and sister in Adelaide. Although she cannot remember what she brought in the trunk, she thinks it was likely to be blankets and household linen. Helen met her husband-to-be in Adelaide and married within her first year here. She has three children. She returned to Greece in 1974 and though Adelaide is home now, she would like to return once more to ‘walk’ her memories.
