All things astronomy and space (and then some) - in tiny bits and pieces but mostly with links to more ... :-)

Venus in the Pleiades - caught in spite of awful sky conditions over Königswinter, Germany! To the naked eye Venus was just a hazy point of light in a grey sky w/o any stars, but the camera - 2.5 seconds at f/5.2 and 107 mm focal length (equal to 595 mm at 35mm) at ISO 1600 - amazingly recovered the main cluster stars next to the planet. Phew ... otherwise this would have worked again only 8 years from now! :-)
