Did you Know? 90% of Sudanese Refugees Seeking Shelter are Women and Children

Violence in border areas between #Sudan and South Sudan, including recent fighting in Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile states, has driven some 80,000 #Sudanese refugees across the border into Unity and Upper Nile states in South Sudan, as well as more than 30,000 into neighboring #Ethiopia. Hundreds of thousands more are #displaced within Sudan.

In addition to urgent relocation from volatile border areas, the #UN Refugee Agency’s emergency response includes the provision of basic #humanitarian relief items and services, registration and #child protection. In December, #UNHCR mounted a massive airlift to bring in supplies – tents, plastic sheets, jerry cans, kitchen sets and more – to the #refugees in South Sudan.
