Declassified Wartime Broadcasting Service (WTBS) script from the late 1980s, announcing the emergency setting-up of the WTBS. In reality, this service was run by the BBC. All other forms of radio and television broadcasting would cease upon the setting-up of the WTBS. The setting-up of this broadcasting service was one of the final acts of the Government War Book, and would only have been done once war (conventional and nuclear) was thought imminent.

The following WTBS script was to be announced if the 'conflict' was judged to be over.

5. WTBS close and normal service announcement

We are pleased to tell you that the conflict is over. Although it may take some time for us to resume out full normal service we are now stepping down the WTBS and from now on we will bring you programmes of information and entertainment that we hope will help us all resume a normal way of life. Good bye for now. We will reach you again on your radio set on BBC Radios 4 with 3 and Radios 2 with 1.
