I am saddened to hear that Cala Foods in Hyde Street is closing down later this month. Not only did I learn to cook up roasted gomashio salmon for dinner, but the produce as well as the meat was very fresh there. Is it an upscale grocery store? No. Do they have fresh juice? No. But, they carried San Francisco’s best chocolate croissant. Word is that Trader Joe’s will replace Cala Foods. Bye-bye my neighborhood grocery store. I will miss you.
