Every year, some 43,000 children in the country die before age 5. Sierra Leone’s civil war ended over ten years ago, but progress, especially for girls and women, remains slow. High rates of maternal and child mortality, early marriage, limited access to education and sexual abuse all threaten girls’ health and wellbeing.
