Army Spc. Tyler R. Walshe
Death: Aug 31, 2009
of Shasta Calif.; assigned to the 1st Battalion 17th Infantry Regiment 5th Stryker Brigade 2nd Infantry Division Fort Lewis Wash.; Died Aug. 31 in Kandahar Afghanistan of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Also killed were Spc. Jonathan D. Welch and Pfc. Jordan M. Brochu. Was proud of newborn daughter The Associated Press Tyler Walshe’s wife Kirsten Walshe-Vietti said he was “the most amazing person.” Friend Ruben Contreras wrote online that he’ll miss playing basketball with the 21-year-old soldier and he has “nothing but good things to say” about Walshe. “I watched Tyler hold and comfort his daughter like a proud father” another acquaintance Guy Lane wrote online sympathizing with his family. “Memories and stories from others will be all she ever has of her father now.” Walshe the father of 11-month-old Karsyn Died Aug. 31 when his unit was attacked in Kandahar province Afghanistan. He was based at Fort Lewis Wash. Walshe joined the Army in October 2006. He was deployed to Afghanistan in July. “I just can’t believe he’s gone” his wife said. “I’m trying really really hard to keep it together and to stay strong for my daughter. She doesn’t understand that daddy’s gone.” Walshe’s wife said their daughter’s first birthday is Nov. 11 which is Veterans Day. His honors include the National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon and Combat Infantryman Badge.Operation Enduring Freedom
