today's exotic treat: fuchsia's peanuts. they're called strange-flavour peanuts ( 怪味花仁)here's how fuchsia made them in her own words: "First roast the peanuts (normally I do this in an oven at about 120 degrees C, but because my oven isn't working at the moment I salt-roasted them in a wok). When they have cooled, rub off their skins with your fingertips, and then stand on the doorstep and shake the peanuts as you blow away the skins. Melt some sugar in a little water, heat the syrup to the hardball stage (just over 120 degrees C), and then stir in ground chillies, ground roasted Sichuan pepper and salt. Working briskly, stir in the peanuts and keep mixing as the syrup becomes fudgy, so the nuts don't stick together in large clumps. (The recipe is in 'Sichuan Cookery')"
