OBJECT O/T WEEK Sokari Douglas Camp, Alagba in Limbo, 1996. Collection Afrika Museum, Berg en Dal. Steel, wood, feathers. 218 x 187 x 187 cm.
Sokari Douglas Camp Works with metal just as fashion designers drape fabrics. She uses it to create people and spirit beings which are totally present as characters. In this sculpture, the female spirit being Alagba, who is danced by a man, is carried by four men whose posture recalls the famous Burghers of Calais (1889) by Rodin, whom Douglas Camp greatly admires.
