Born in Manchester, Jamaica, reggae singer Jah Mason made his debut in 1991 with the single Selassie I Call We, recorded for Junior Reid's record label. Four years later he joined the Bobo Ashanti order of Rastafari movement officially linking him to the David House, who had successfully guided singers such as Capleton to international fame. With the spiritual side of Mason blooming he changed his performance name from Perry Mason to Jah Mason and began recording conscious reggae where the message was as important as the music. He has released at least an album a year from 2002 till 2008, starting with Keep the Joy and Working So Hard 2002. In 2008 he released three albums and one collaboration The Pow Pow Triology (2008), Pow Pow - with Anthony B and Turbulence. His latest release "Keep yah Head Up" was releassed last year (2010)
Jah Mason is no stranger to Australia having performed here several times and is always a welcome guest at ReggaeTown festival in Cains. He not only collaborates with Reggae greats such as Jah Cure and Capleton but with our own homegrown hero’s such as Blue King Brown! Featuring on their latest album “The March”, currently being played on Triple J, Mason has defiantly positioned himself at the forefront of modern Rasta reggae music around the world.
"Well known for his underground reggae hits such as “Princess Gone”, “Wheat and Tears”, “Smoke” and “Mi Chalwa”, the last decade has seen Jah Mason rise to prominence around the world as one of the leading artists in the new-roots Rasta reggae movement.
Balancing a hardcore deejay style (ala Capleton, Sizzla, Buju Banton) with a melodic singing voice, Jah Mason has built a big reputation on his explosive stage performances"* – and now it’s Western Australia's turn to feel the fire once again!
With local support on the night from The Empressions, General Justice, Tutomath, Simba, DJ Ray and Kriti-Cal, this is sure to be a night of bass booming reggae and pure fire bun lyrics not to be missed!
$35 on the door - lock it in - FRIDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER 2011!!!
