We arrived after walking for a month. There had been no rain where we lived for a long time. All of our crops failed last year, and this year there was no food. Our animals, goats and a few cows, died because there was nothing for them to eat. If we had stayed, we would have starved. … The fighting [also] became very bad: there was never peace where we were. We were afraid that our children would be killed if we stayed. Members of my family have been killed…. I never want to go back to Somalia; there is nothing there for us now. Here we are being looked after and there is food and I can get help for my children. I was worried about Ansell but … I came to this clinic to get her this special food… After she eats it, she feels better.” The camp is among three that comprise the Dadaab camps, located near the town of Dadaab in Garissa District.
