((Prose for the moment))

It was an age of miracles, it was an age of art,
it was an age of excess, and it was an age of satire

We were the most powerful nation.
Who could tell us any longer what was fashionable
and what was fun?

Scarcely had the staider citizens of the republic caught
their breaths when the wildest of all generations,
the generation which had been adolescent during the confusion
of the War, brusquely shouldered them out of the way and
danced into the limelight.
