Growing up in Burundi, Faustin observed his father, who was frequently drunk, abusing his mother. Faustin looked up to his father and one day hoped to be like him.

"I saw him as a supreme authority -- a 'president' in his household -- because everybody in our house, my mother included, trembled when he spoke. I told myself that one day, I would get married so that I could also have a woman and children to give orders to," he says.

Sure enough, when Faustin married Leonie, he physically abused her and relegated her to hard labor. Keep watching our Twitter feed today to see how CARE helped him form a loving and respectful relationship with his wife.
