Hey I worked on these CDC 80MB and 300MB drives when I worked on FLight Simulators! Not much fun when a head crashed!!!

Blimey...looks like a very tidy scene from My Beautiful Laundrette....all that's needed is a whole load of soap suds flowing out of the 'washing machines'!
RickMGoldie on May 11, 2009
I still remember the sales slogan : "2900 Your Future System". I missed all the lights on the front panel of the System 4 predecessors. We thought these new machines were boring wardrobe looking boxes. Disc drives - all re-badged CDC (Control Data Corpo

I started out on ICL 1903T with EDS-8 (yes, eight MB) running George III. I am old enough to be part of that history.

donutfollowme on May 11, 2009
hahaha - I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that looked like a launderette!
jamesgibbon on May 11, 2009
In response to Laura (below) my iPod holds 80GB, or more than 90 times what all these old boxes put together can store.
jamesgibbon on May 11, 2009
If these are 80MB drives, then 880MB of storage is visible. Less than you'd buy to slot into a digital camera for 4 or 5 quid.

Ah memories! I worked on one of first 2900s - 1.25Mbyte of main memory, 4 * 100 Mbyte disk drives to support whole university!
Laurawhittaker on May 11, 2009
2think an ipod or similar holds 20mb! Facinating stuff @ #bpark
broccolichicken on May 11, 2009
Worked with disk drives in 80's. Remember 2 close lid when power up or risk decapitation & don't place magtapes on spinning drives--degauss possible!
TalkyMeat on May 11, 2009
See, the semblance to a launderette is exactly why they put the do-not-touch sign- they don't want people pouring Daz in the top
gaetanlondon on May 11, 2009
OMG, where did they hide Nick Kamen?
dumplin75 on May 11, 2009
