In war-torn Afghanistan, a woman’s risk of maternal death is one in eight during her lifetime, and 16.5 percent of children die before reaching their first birthday.

CARE's Opportunities for Mother and Infant Development (OMID) project in Afghanistan is improving maternal and newborn healthy for more than 10,000 women and their children in the Kabul area. The project aims to improve women's access to health services and monitor progress in the number of women who receive prenatal, birth and postnatal health care.
