The 3rd March is International Sex Worker Rights Day.The day’s history goes back to 2001 when over 25,000 sex workers gathered in India for a sex worker festival. The organizers, Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee, is a Calcutta based group that has over 50,000 sex worker members and members of their communities. Since this time, sex worker groups across the world have celebrated 3 March as International Sex Workers’ Rights Day.

Today Sex workers are marched for their human rights. They will not be made invisible, they will not be silenced – they are human beings deserving of human rights! They want access to justice, health care and an end to the arrests of sex workers and they want to be able to work safely. They want the right to choose their own work and to be protected by labour legislation like other workers.

We are marched with them to show sex workers that they are not alone!

We are marching to stand together!
