BELLA
DOB September 2009
If Pet Refuge gave out an award for the most improved cat, Bella would be sure to win! When Bella first arrived in her foster home back in March, she was a very scared, semi-social kitten who had already learned that not all humans are to be trusted. For the first few weeks, she literally climbed up the walls whenever I tried to approach her.
Then, slowly, Bella started to improve. What has probably helped Bella the most is her friendship with the other cats. I still remember the first time I found her cuddled up with one of her foster siblings – and she was so comfortable she didn’t run. Or the first time Bella picked up a toy and started to play. After several months, Bella was also willing to take special treats (turkey breast is her favorite!) from my hand, slowly and carefully, always ready to dart.
By the end of the summer, Bella was finally willing to approach me even without the enticement of food and I will never forget the day that she rubbed up to me for the first time, asking to be petted. Bella is now at a point where she will climb into my lap, purring loudly, and clearly wanting to be petted and loved on.
Bella’s story has taught me a lot about cats’ amazing capacity to love, forgive and overcome their fears. Bella is not only a true survivor, but she has developed into a beautiful, loving cat that is ready to extend her newfound trust of people to a new family. Bella needs a quiet home with a patient person who will give her time to adjust. If you are willing to make this commitment, you will become the most special person in Bella's life! (Christina)
