I was searching on-line and came across a repository of documents dating back to the Republic of Texas. I think it is sponsored by UT. Anyhow, I found quite a few documents related to my great, great, great grandfather, Jackson Smith, co-founder of Jacksonville, Texas in Cherokee County. In this document he is petitioning for a pension from his service in the Republic of Texas Army. It states that he served in New Orleans and Galveston guarding against Santa Anna.
