Chad, 2010: Women bring their children to a nutrition screening in Kanem, one of four regions affected by a large-scale malnutrition crisis. Chronic drought and subsequent food shortages have caused malnutrition in more than a quarter of all children, a rate far exceeding emergency levels. Some 70,000 tons of food aid has been delivered to the area, but much more is needed. UNICEF is supporting therapeutic feeding and other life-saving assistance.
